New Delhi [India], February 3 : Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday called upon the youth of India to take a proactive role in safeguarding national interests and countering anti-national narratives that undermine the country's progress.
Addressing the 75th ICAI Annual Function in Delhi, VP Dhankhar urged the youth to actively challenge these narratives and stand against forces that threaten India's unity and integrity.
He also flagged concerns about issues like illegal migration and demographic changes affecting electoral politics, stressing that these are collective challenges the youth must address.
In his address at the 75th ICAI, Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "I appeal to the youth to counter these anti-national narratives and defeat forces inimical to India. Our nation cannot afford millions of illegal migrants or demographic disruptions affecting electoral politics. These are challenges you have to solve collectively."
Dhankhar also addressed concerns over the current state of parliamentary proceedings, and emphasised the importance of meaningful debates and discussions in the House, contrasting it with the constructive deliberations of the Constituent Assembly, where national interest was the sole focus.
"When the country is in crisis and responsible people are not discharging their duties, then it is important for the youth power of India--at the top of which you are--to come in the right direction. If there is no discussion and debate in the Parliament and there is only disruption, then it is your responsibility too," said Dhankhar.
He expressed concern over the increasing disruptions in Parliament, noting that the lack of productive dialogue raises serious questions among the younger generation.
Adding further, he said, "There used to be healthy discussions and deliberations in the Constituent Assembly, where there was no confrontation, only national interest was paramount. Today, seeing the same arena in the House, the youth ask me, "Why don't you do something?" This is a matter of serious concern."
Highlighting India's remarkable development journey, which has captured global attention, the Vice President warned that certain elements are harming the nation by propagating divisive and anti-national narratives.
"India's unprecedented development journey has astonished the world, but some people are harming the national interest by creating negative narratives. They are cutting the very branch on which they are sitting by forgetting Indianness and nationalism," he remarked.
