New Delhi [India], January 15 : Stepping up her attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Alka Lamba on Wednesday said that former Delhi CM Kejriwal is submerged in corruption.
Lamba who is taking on incumbent CM Atishi is Kalkaji said that Kejriwal should refrain from filing for nomination if "he has ethics."
This came after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) authorized the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to initiate prosecution against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for their alleged involvement in money laundering linked to the liquor scam case.
Lamba told ANI, "...Arvind Kejriwal is submerged in corruption. I think he does not even have the right to file his nomination. He should apologise. If he has ethics, he should not file his nomination..."
Senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa also took on Kejriwal allegng that the AAP had indulged in a simmilar scam in Punjab
"I think the permission has come a bit too late. They should also look at a similar scam done by AAP in Punjab. The liquor scam in Punjab by the AAP is on a larger scale than that in Delhi. I think this is the right step that has been taken. I think they should proceed and take the same step in Punjab as well," he said.
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said, "...There are so many cases against him, now one more will be there. He has been to jail, and he talks of honesty..."
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar defended her party leader claiming that this was the latest in a series of false cases filed against the AAP leader.
"After 2 years, you gave sanction to prosecute and this is when the elections are near. Their same old routine is to file false cases, defame the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party. But now the public has understood everything,." she said.
The sanction order against Kejriwal and Sisodia Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders was received earlier this month in a fresh development to the case pertaining to the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22.
The move comes as the two leaders are out on bail in the case as the Supreme Court in September last year ordered Arvind Kejriwal to be released on regular bail as well as Manish Sisodia a month ago in August in cases linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
