Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], October 22: Narayanpur-Sonpur-Chhotebethia road, which had been closed for many years due to Naxal-releated violence, is now being reconstructed by the government. Horadi village is located along an old road that connects to the Narayanpur-Sonpur-Chhotebethia route.
On the construction of Narayanpur-Sonpur-Chhotebethia road, SP Narayanpur, Prabhat Kumar spoke about how the government is working on the development of the area after it was stopped due to naxalism. SP Narayanpur said,"Horadi lies on an old road which connected Narayanpur-Sonpur-Chhotebethia in 1950s. Later, due to naxalism development stopped in the area. Now, we are reclaiming it."
SP Narayanpur also said that the people of Horadi were initially against the construction of the road fearing Naxals in the area and now are supporting the developments by the government.
"Today, the road construction has reached Horadi. After the road has reached Horadi, many govt facilities are reaching here. Earlier under the influence and fear of naxals, the villagers of Horadi were protesting the construction of the road but now they are supporting it. Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and former Chief Minister Raman Singh stated on October 20 that the state government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are committed to completely eradicate Naxalism in the coming year.
Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Singh statement followed a day after two ITBP jawans lost their lives in an IED attack by Naxals in the Narayanpur districts. Speaking to reporters, he said, "There is constant pressure on the Naxalites and the joint operation being carried out by security forces in Chhattisgarh is yielding very good results. Approximately 190 Naxalites have been killed in the last one year. This shows the determination of the government and the commitment of Amit Shah that Naxalism will be completely eradicated in the coming year."
