Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Feb 8 : Scores of devotees during the wee hours on Saturday flocked to perform rituals and offer prayers on the 10th day of the famous South Indian Float Festival.
With all its prosperity, counted as one of the famous festivals of Tamil Nadu, the rituals of the Float Festival are performed on the water of the Mariamman Teppakulam Lake in the backdrop of Meenakshi Amman Temple.

While the crowds wait on the bank, the idols of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwar are spectacularly embellished during the day. The deities are then further worshipped and are placed in a tableau.

Accompanied by devotees and musicians, engaging the air with classical rhythms, the main highlight of the festival is when the deities are taken for the ride in the lavishly decorated with flowers, and lightings amid water.

A devotee, Sushila, who had come to offer her prayers in the temple, while talking to ANI, said: "Since the year witnessed ample amount of rainfall, there is no scarcity of water and the Float Festival is going on in all its grace."
"There had been no water for the past six years, but this time we have. Let this be the case every year and may the all-mighty bless us all," Sushila further said.
Kalasrinatan, the priest, as he was decorating the deity with jewelry, said to ANI about the whole process of taking the idols around the lake.
"People in large numbers come to the temple during the Float festival. As the deities are taken on the ride, many devotees offer their prayers," the priest added.

Devotees put their efforts to pull the rope that is tied up to the tabloid as the float reaches the shore amidst cheers and ceremonies.
