Friendship through Bollywood lens!

New Delhi [India], Aug 3 : Among various relations that we have, friendship is one bond that we develop purely out of our choice. And with time it only grows stronger with friends going to any extent to protect that bond.
Since time immemorial, we have seen movies that not only glorified friendship but taught us the true meaning of the sacred bond. With friendship being one of the most engrossing themes in Indian Cinema, many films have portrayed friendship as an unbreakable bond and highlighted the concept of 'friend in need is a friend indeed'.
From Jai and Veeru to Rahul and Anjali, films have celebrated the bond of friendship in different hues bringing different elements on screens. Some movies will make you cry while others will make you feel more strongly for your friends.
As we inch closer to Friendship Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of August, here are five movies that redefined friendship and glorified the bond that we all create during our lifetime.
Dosti- Helmed by Satyen Bose this black-and-white film explores the friendship between a blind (Mohan) and a crippled (Ramu) friends. One endowed with the talent of playing harmonica another with a golden voice, the duo sets the screen on fire as they team up and sing to make money when Ramu is thrown out of his home.
Sholay- The famous song from the film-'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge' not only takes us through a range of emotions but give us major friendship goal as well. Starring Amitabh Bachchan as Jai and Dharmendra Deol as Veeru the film wins hearts with its interpretation of friendship.
Saudagar-This drama not only taught us about friendship but the other side of the bond as well- when a friend turns foe. Starring Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar the film is known for the rivalry the duo develop following a misunderstanding but the love they have for each other never dies.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- The contemporary film portrays the friendship between opposite genders. The film gave us the iconic dialogue 'Love is friendship' which became a catchphrase among 90 kids. The film traces the journey of Shah Rukh Khan (Rahul) and Kajol (Anjali) known for their friendship in the college. However, they drifted apart when Rahul falls for Rani Mukherjee (Tina). Later, Tina dies in the film and her daughter also named Anjali plays cupid to reunite Rahul and Anjali.
3 Idiots- The comedy-drama follows three friends-Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan. The scene where Aamir clears the way for an ambulance carrying Sharman to hospital after he attempted suicide as 'Jaane Nahi Denge Tujhe' played in the background evokes a variety of emotions that reinstill the feeling to do anything for friends. The film has more such poignant scene that will make you cry and praise the friendship portrayed in the film.
No matter what age we live in, friendship is something that can never lose it sheen. We will always require friends to share our joy and sorrow with and who can listen to our stupid talks without even making us realise that they are bored.
