Nizamabad (Telangana) [India], March 17 : BRS MLC K Kavitha criticized the Congress government in Telangana over the lack of Muslim representation in the state cabinet, urging it to "live up to the promises made to the Muslim community."
She alleged that the community remains politically and financially disempowered, citing the absence of a Muslim representative in the state cabinet.
After attending an Iftar party in Nizamabad, Kavitha pointed out that no Muslim leader has been appointed as a minister or MLC in the last 15 months of Congress rule.
"Today, we are in Nizamabad celebrating Ramadan with all our Muslim friends and party leaders. Everybody in Telangana knows and understands how much BRS is soulfully attached to the Muslim community of Telangana. At the same time, the Congress party has not even given a single MLC nor any ministry to the Muslim person here in the last 15 months," the BRS leader told ANI.
She claimed that under the previous BRS government, a Muslim MLC was elevated to the post of Deputy Chief Minister, whereas the Congress government has failed to do the same.
"This is the first time in the 75 years of independence in our state that a Muslim does not have a place in the cabinet, whereas the BRS government directly made a Muslim an MLC and then a Deputy Chief Minister for the first time in history. However, this government has no such sentiments or understanding of things," she said.
She urged the Congress government to take action and fulfil the promises made to the Muslim community.
"So today, Muslims in Telangana are not happy. Neither are they empowered politically nor financially, and they're suffering. We want the Congress government to walk the talk and live up to the promises made to the Muslim community...," she added.
