"Mamata govt creating Bangladesh-like situation here": BJP's Dilip Ghosh on Murshidabad riots
Apr 15, 2025
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 15 : BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government is creating a "Bangladesh-like situation" in the state following recent incidents of violence in Murshidabad.
Ghosh further alleged that the West Bengal Chief Minister was creating a "conspiracy" to trap Hindus inside their homes by agitating the atmosphere before Ram Navami.
He stated that it wasn't the government's role to "play the blame game" and further slammed them for creating an atmosphere of fear among the Hindu-minority regions ahead of the state assembly elections.
"By creating a disturbed atmosphere in the state before Ram Navami, they created a conspiracy to trap Hindus inside their homes, which proved to be unsuccessful. Despite the disturbance, Hindus came out in larger numbers to celebrate Ram Navami," Ghosh said.
"The Mamata government is helping to create a Bangladesh-like situation here. If they claim the miscreants are outsiders, why are they not being caught? What are the police doing? It is not the government's duty to play the blame game. They are trying to create an atmosphere of fear in the Hindu-minority regions ahead of the assembly elections. Elections should be held under the President's rule, under the watchful eye of the Election Commission. Otherwise, the Hindus will not be able to vote," he added.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Rahul Sinha also held the state government responsible for the violence.
"This government wants riots. Otherwise, there was no reason for Mamata Banerjee to make such provocative remarks," said Sinha.
He claimed that Mamata Banerjee tried to agitate the crowd during a namaz event but her plan failed, following which she used the Waqf issue to incite violence, leading to the recent riots in Murshidabad.
"She made the most provocative statements on the Waqf Amendment Bill, and everyone is suffering as a result. She tried to create communal tensions at a namaz event so that riots would break out at Ram Navami. When that plan failed, she used the Waqf issue to incite violence. This is why the Murshidabad violence broke out," Sinha added.
On 12th April (Saturday), three people were killed in the Murshidabad district during violence amid protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, the police said.
Consequently, the West Bengal Police have arrested 150 individuals in connection with the Murshidabad violence. According to a police statement, adequate forces have been deployed in Samserganj, Dhuliyan, Suti, and other affected areas to maintain order.
On Saturday, a special bench of the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of central forces "immediately" in Murshidabad in the wake of widespread violence during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which has resulted in three deaths so far.
