New Delhi [India] September 19 : Minister of state (independent charge) Jayant Chaudhary on Thursday said that the government had targeted to skill one lakh women in the first hundred days of its formation but it has overachieved the targets by upskilling five lakh women under the Prime Minister skilling scheme.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday he said, "We have set firm targets to achieve which include skilling of women folk in various disciplines. Earlier, skilling of 1.5 lakh women was the aim to be realised in the first hundred days of the Modi government but we have overachieved the aim by training five lakh women under Prime Minister skilling scheme."
"Some targets, we have had some learning over hundred days and personally for me as education and skill development minister I am trying to build transparency and convergence into the system. I am handling the ministry for the first time and my intention is to fulfil targets. It is a complex task but I am on it. Similarly, we have overachieved many other targets in the initial hundred days of the dispensation," he added.
Hailing the Union Cabinet's decision to implement "One nation, one election" proposal, Jayant Chaudhary described it as a step towards strengthening democracy.
"The cabinet has taken a decision...There was a lot of discussion about it. We need to think about it before making any statement. The government is taking great decisions to strengthen democracy. We need to think deeply about the issue. A committee has been formed to look into it. There is a law commission report on it. Our former president was tasked to head the committee and a dialogue was held with all the parties. We need to introspect deeply before making a comment," he said.
"Let's see the bill which it has to be passed by both houses of Parliament. Amendments will be taken account of. The people of the country must have faith that the government is taking the best decision to deepen and bolster democracy in the country. My understanding is that we shall wait to see what shape the bill takes., he added.
