Washington D.C [U.S.A], May 7: Rapper Nicki Minaj chose to keep it all pink for this year's Met Gala as she strutted through the pink carpet in an embellished Prabal Gurung ensemble.
The 'Queen' rapper made a stunning presence at this year's fashion fete in an Atelier Prabal Gurung rococo blush mini featuring a hand-embroidered chandelier crystal hand draped silk taffeta bouillon train.
Minaj teamed the look with a Brother Vellies custom-made pink satin and Swarovski Crystal strappy sandals that went all the way up to mid-thigh and featured a thin stiletto heel. The 36-year-old rapper tied her hair in a long pale pink high ponytail and opted for a bold look with winged eyeliner and lots of blush. She paired the outfit with a series of rings and shimmery statement earrings. In a conversation with E-News on the red carpet, Minaj revealed that she wanted a lighter vibe to the dress. "As for Met Gala I wanted to keep my look simple but pretty sexy and my designer has established this for me, so the Camp theme is handled by him."
In a detailed Instagram post, Gurung revealed that the inspiration for Nicki's couture confection began in reimagining the court of King Louis XIV, the visionary behind the palace of Versailles.
"We draw on the spectacle of grandeur in silhouette, shade and hand embroidered chandelier crystal detail. With the supernatural force that is Nicki Minaj, we raise the question of what this court would be in modern times, when ruled by a powerful queen. Together, we rethink convention, redefine norms and shape a new visual identity that honours the bold and fearless codes of femininity," the designer went on to explain.
Minaj and Cardi B were seen together at the event just eight months after their red carpet scuffle at the New York Fashion Week. The duo, however, did not exchange any pleasantries on the carpet.
The rappers were at loggerheads during the New York Fashion Week in September last year on the red carpet at the Harper's Bazaar Icons party, which left Cardi with a golf-ball size bruise on her head.
In the videos of the incident that were posted online, Cardi was seen charging at someone after Minaj hit the carpet.
The theme for Met Gala this year, which was held in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, was 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'.
The event was hosted by Lady Gaga, Anna Wintour, Gucci's Creative Director Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles, and Serena Williams.
