PM Internship Scheme sees three-fold surge in opportunities in three days

New Delhi [India], October 9 : In a major development, the number of internship opportunities under the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme has surged more than threefold in just three days, sources told ANI.
The scheme aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in the top 500 companies over the next five years. This will help many young people to get a chance to work in big companies and learn about different jobs and industries.
On October 7, 2024, around 16,000 opportunities were available, and by October 9, 2024, this number had risen to nearly 50,000, ahead of the portal opening for applicants on October 12, 2024.
The portal was first opened on October 3, 2024, for companies to post available internship opportunities. On the first day alone, 1,077 offers were listed by companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Max Life, and Alembic Pharma.
According to sources, more than 130 companies have posted internship opportunities, including major private sector players such as Jubilant FoodWorks, Eicher Motors Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Bajaj Finance, and Muthoot Finance. The opportunities span across 22 sectors, with the Oil, Gas & Energy sector offering the largest share, followed closely by Travel & Hospitality. Other sectors include Automotives, Banking and Financial Services, Infrastructure & Construction, Manufacturing & Industrial, Aviation & Defence, and more.
Internships are being offered in over 20 fields, such as Operations Management, Production & Manufacturing, Maintenance, Sales & Marketing, among others. These opportunities are spread across 650 districts, covering all 36 States and Union Territories, offering a wide geographical reach.
On October 3, 2024, the government launched the pilot phase of the ambitious Prime Minister's Internship Scheme. Officials from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs revealed that the top 500 companies will be providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities during FY 2024-25. The scheme, which was announced in the 2024-25 Budget, aims to provide internships to one crore youth in the top 500 companies over the next five years.
