Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 16 : Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Saturday condemned the fire at Jhansi Medical College that claimed the lives of 10 newborns, describing the incident as "shameful" and highlighting the failure to provide adequate healthcare facilities in today's time.
"It is a heart-breaking and tragic incident. It is shameful that even in this day and age, we are unable to provide basic health facilities. I would like to ask Yogi Adityanath Ji, as the head of the government, whether you can ensure the safety of children. The entire country is witnessing propaganda aimed at dividing and exploiting people, yet when it comes to governance and reform, there is consistent failure. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their children," said Priyanka Chaturvedi.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condemned the incident, calling for immediate measures to prevent such horrific tragedies in the future.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a short circuit in an oxygen concentrator, spread quickly in the oxygen-rich environment of the NICU, resulting in the deaths of 10 newborns.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed his sorrow and demanded strict action against those responsible.
In a post on X, he wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of several newborns in the fire at Jhansi Medical College. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families."
He added, "Such repeated tragedies in Uttar Pradesh raise serious concerns about the negligence of the government and administration."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, calling the incident "heart-wrenching" in a post on X.
"The fire at Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences to the families who have lost their innocent children. I pray for God to give them the strength to endure this immense loss. The local administration, under the state government's supervision, is making every effort to provide relief and carry out rescue operations," said PM Modi.
The tragedy has left grieving families devastated, with many still searching for their missing children.
