Punjab: BSF thwarts smuggling attempt; seizes 3 packets of heroin

Tarn Taran (Punjab) [India], October 2 : Three packets of heroin weighing over 1.8 kg were seized by the Border Security Force and Punjab Police near Wan village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Wednesday.
The narcotics packets were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and an improvised copper wire loop was also found attached to the consignment, confirming to be dropped from drone, said a press release from the BSF. However, the suspected persons managed to escape the area before arrival of the troops.
According to a press release, upon receiving the specific information about the presence of suspected persons in the border area of Tarn Taran district, BSF troops conducted a joint operation in collaboration with the Punjab Police.
The press release reads, "During the search operation, at about 04:28 pm, the troops successfully recovered 03 packets of suspected heroin (Gross weight- 1.823 Kg) in a paddy field adjacent to village Wan in Tarn Taran district. However, the suspected persons managed to escape the area before arrival of the troops. The narcotics packets were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and an improvised copper wire loop was also found attached to the consignment, confirming to be dropped from drone."
"Reliable information with quick coordinated response of BSF and Punjab police made yet another successful recovery of narcotics consignment smuggled by drone from across the border," it added.
Earlier on September 29, Border Security Force recovered one drone in Punjab's Tarn Taran during the morning hours, said BSF in the press release.
Based on information provided by a combine harvester operator about a drone in a farming field, BSF troops rushed to the spot and carried out an extensive search operation.
The search culminated at about 11:40 am with the recovery of one drone from a farming field nearby village-CB Chand in district Tarn Taran, added the statement.
The recovered drone has been identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 classic, informed officials.
