Railways to hold statutory inquiry in Mysuru-Darbhanga Express collision, ask public to share evidence

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 14 : The Commissioner of Railway Safety will be conducting a statutory inquiry into the Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Collision. The railways has asked people to share information regarding the accident or related matters with the Commissioner.
The inquiry proceedings will be held on October 16 and 17.
"Shri A.M. Chowdhary, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru will conduct a Statutory Inquiry Into the rail mishap of 11th October 2024 involving rear-end collision of Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express with a goods train at Kavaraipettai. The inquiry proceedings will be held on 16th and 17th October 2024 (Wednesday & Thursday) at the DRM Meeting Hall. 5th Floor, NGO Annexe. "Any member of the public with information regarding the accident or related matters may be invited to provide evidence to the Commissioner," added the statement.
Earlier, Southern Railways said that train traffic on mainline was resumed in record time after the Kavaraipettai train accident with the down (DN) line restored, railway officials said on Sunday.
According to Southern Railways, the down-line track was restored and a train passed through the accident site on Sunday morning. At least 19 people were left injured after 12-13 coaches of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed after ramming into a stationary goods train on October 11 in Tamil Nadu's Kavaraipettai. No fatalities were reported.
"Mainline train traffic was restored in record time after the Kavaraipettai incident with the DN line track fit at 7 am, OHE works were completed by 8 am, and signalling reconnection at 8.30 am, train no. 12842 passed the accident site at 9.08 am today," Southern Railways said in a statement.
Traffic on the up-line track was restored on Friday evening. According to officials, the passengers of Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, who were stranded following the accident were transported by buses to Ponneri and Chennai Central by two EMU Specials in the early morning.
