Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], February 25 : Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday wrote to the Chief Election Commisioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that Union Minister State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay had made "scathing" and "unruly" remarks against the Congress party.
According to the Congress MP, the remarks were made at Karimnagar in his poll campaign. He requested the CEC to take "strict and stern action" against the Union Minister for his "immature" statements against the Congress party for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
"He uttered in an undemocratic way by taking the example of gentleman's cricket game, if the Graduate voters will vote in favour of the Congress party, it will make Pakistan win and if they voted in favour of the BJP, it will make India win," Reddy said in his letter.
"His speech will definitely attract the model code and conduct of the ECI since he betrays the Graduate voters, in the above said election. He forgot that he is the Central Minister and uttered such immature and insane statements, in the poll campaign," he added.
Later in the day, Reddy led a delegation of Congress leaders to the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana and lodged a complaint against the Union Minister.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud condemned the statement and told ANI, "We will complain to the Election Commission."
Bandi Sanjay Kumar, drew an analogy between the upcoming MLC elections in Telangana and the cricket match between India and Pakistan.
"Recently, there was a cricket match between India and Pakistan. Just like our cricketers met the hopes of the cricket fans, BJP will win the MLC elections and fulfill the hopes of the graduates and teachers," Kumar told reporters, drawing a parallel between the sporting rivalry and political contest.
He further stated, "On 27th February, a match is happening. BJP is Team India. They (Congress) are Team Pakistan. The voters should think about this. If you vote for us, Team India, we will win. If you want Team Pakistan to win, vote for them. Think about who will fulfill your dreams and then vote."
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled MLC elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for February 27, from 8 AM to 4 PM. The votes will be counted on March 3.
Briefing the media on preparations for MLC elections, Visakhapatnam District Collector Harendra Prasad said, " Polling will be held on 27th February from 8 am to 4 pm. We have set up 138 polling stations in Visakhapatnam. We are implementing a silence period from this evening..."
