New Delhi [India], February 9 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on AAP and took repeated jibes at Congress for its "double hat-trick of zero" as he lauded BJP's victory in the Delhi assembly polls and said the results show how much trust the country has in "double-engine government".
He attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over allegations of corruption against its leaders, saying that all links of such charges will be probed and those who "looted" money will have to return it.
Addressing a gathering at the party headquarters after the party's resounding victory in assembly polls, PM Modi said the BJP will return the love of the people of Delhi in theform of progress and development.
"These AAPda people, resorted to conspiracies every day to hide their scams. Now the Delhi poll verdict has come. I am giving a guarantee that in the first session of assembly, CAG report will be tabled. Every link of corruption will be probed and whoever has looted will have to return," he said.
Targeting AAP leaders including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, PM Modi said that those who gave certificates to others, they are facing allegations of corruption.
Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia went to the jail in the excise policy case are on bail. The BJP has also been taking "sheeshmahal" jibes at Kejriwal.
In his speech, PM Modi thanked people of Delhi for their support to BJP in assembly polls and said they are feeling relived on making the national capital "AAP-da free".
"I thank the people of Delhi. Delhi has given us love wholeheartedly and I once again assure the people that we will return you double the love in the form of development," he said.
"Today, there is excitement and relief in the minds of the people of Delhi. Excitement for victory and relief is for making Delhi, AAP-da free...I bow my head and thank the people of Delhi for believing in Modi's guarantee," he added.
BJP won 48 seats in Delhi assembly polls. AAP won 22 seats in 70-member assembly.
Several prominent leaders of AAP including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lost polls.
In his speech, PM Modi termed BJP's victory as "historic". "This is not an ordinary victory. The people of Delhi have driven out 'AAP-da'. Delhi has been freed from the 'AAP-da'. The mandate of Delhi is clear. Today, development, vision and trust have won in Delhi. Today, ostentation, anarchy, arrogance and the 'AAP-da' that had engulfed Delhi have been defeated. I congratulate every BJP worker and all of you for this victory," he said.
PM Modi accused the Congress of doing "politics of urban Naxals" and "stealing the language, agenda of its allies" and alleged that it is a "parjeevi party".
PM Modi said Congress was giving "gold medal of defeat" to itself.
"Today again the people have given a message to Congress. Congress has hit a double hattrick of 'zero' in Delhi elections. The oldest party in the country is not able to get even one seat in the national capital for the last six times. They are giving the gold medal of defeat to themselves," he said.
"Today Congress is not doing politics of national interest but of urban Naxals. When Congress leaders say that they are fighting India, fighting the Indian state, this is the language of Naxalites. This is the language of bringing anarchy in the society and the country. Here in Delhi, 'AAP-da' was also promoting the same urban Naxalite thinking. This urban Naxalite thinking of Congress attacks the achievements of the nation. It wants to impose its own economic, social and political system. When the DNA of urban Naxalites has entered the Congress, then this Congress is getting destroyed at every step," he added.
PM Modi alleged that Congress "not only drowns itself but also its allies". Taking another dig at Congress, he said the party leaders used to make a display of visiting temples in the hope of electoral dividends but have stopped doing so as their hopes did not materialise.
"Congress has become a 'Parjeevi Party'. It not only drowns itself but also its allies. Congress is eliminating its allies one after the other. Today's Congress is engaged in stealing the language, agenda of its allies. In UP, Congress is trying to steal the vote bank which Samajwadi Party and BSP claim as theirs, Mulayam Singh ji understood this very well. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, Congress is trying to woo DMK voters by speaking the language of DMK," he said.
"In Bihar, Congress is spreading the poison of casteism and is engaged in eating the patent of its ally RJD...They tried to become Hindus for five years after 2014. They went to temples, did puja-paath and tried everything because they felt that if they did so, they would be able to damage the vote bank of BJP. But it did not work, you must have seen that they have closed that path for the last few years...Allies of the INDI alliance have now started understanding this character of Congress," he added.
BJP stormed to power in Delhi and will form government in Delhi after a gap of over two-and-a-half decades. It won 48 seats in 70-member assembly ousting AAP which won 22 seats.
He took digs at AAP over pollution in Yamuna and said "the party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption". He also targeted AAP over "liquor scam".
"The existence of Delhi itself has flourished in the lap of Mother Yamuna. The people of Delhi have been crying after seeing the condition of Yamuna as the AAP-DA in Delhi has insulted this faith. For their own failure, such a big accusation has been made on the people of Haryana. I have pledged during the election campaign that we will make Yamuna ji the identity of Delhi. I know this is not very difficult. No matter how much time is taken, no matter how much energy is used, but if the resolve is strong, then blessings of Yamuna ji will remain with us," he said.
"These people of 'AAP-da' came into politics by saying that we will change politics, but these people turned out to be completely dishonest. Today I was listening to the statement of Anna Hazare ji. Anna Hazare ji has been bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time. Today he too must have got relief from that pain. The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose Chief Minister and Ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty, turned out to be corrupt...
"This was a big betrayal with Delhi. The liquor scam defamed Delhi. The scams in schools and hospitals troubled the poorest of the poor and on top of that, their arrogance was so much that when the world was dealing with Corona, these people were building 'Sheesh Mahal'," he added.
The Prime Minister said that politics of protests, confrontation and administrative uncertainty in Delhi have caused great harm to the people of Delhi. "Today, all of you Delhiites have removed a major obstacle in the development of Delhi."
PM Modi said wherever NDA has received the mandate, we have taken that state to new heights of development and that is why BJP is continuously winning. People are electing our governments for the second and third time.
"In the North-East, our governments have connected the people with a new stream of development. There was a time when there was a huge water crisis in Gujarat, farming was difficult, but today the same Gujarat has emerged as an agriculture powerhouse. Remember the condition of Bihar before Nitishji. Nitishji got an opportunity in Bihar, change also came only when the NDA government came. Similarly, Chandrababu Naidu has proved his track record in Andhra Pradesh. All these examples show that NDA means guarantee of development, NDA means guarantee of good governance," he said.
PM Modi said there is excitement and relief in the minds of the people of Delhi. "Excitement for victory and relief is for making Delhi, AAP-da free...I bow my head and thank the people of Delhi for believing in Modi's guarantee," he said.
The Prime Minister said blessings of Nari Shakti is our biggest defence shield and today once again Nari Shakti has blessed us in Delhi. "Be it Odisha, Maharashtra or Haryana, we have fulfilled every promise made to the Nari Shakti in every state...For the first time after independence, the BJP has come to power in every state of Delhi NCR...Rajasthan, UP, Haryana, there are BJP governments in every neighbouring state," he said.
"'Aaj desh tushtikaran nahi BJP ki santushtikaran ki policy ko chun raha hai'...Today, along with Delhi, the BJP has got victory in Ayodhya's Milkipur. Every section has voted for the BJP in large numbers," he added.
PM Modi said Delhi is not just a city, it is a mini India. Delhi lives the idea of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'. "Wherever I went in this election, I used to say with pride that I am an MP from Purvanchal. The people of Purvanchal gave love, trust, new energy, new strength. Therefore, as an MP from Purvanchal, I especially thank the people of Purvanchal," he said.
"There is no such area in Delhi where the lotus did not bloom. People speaking every language have voted for BJP. During this election, wherever I went, I used to say proudly that I am an MP from Purvanchal. The people of Purvanchal have given love to this bond. Therefore, as the MP from Purvanchal, I thank the people of Purvanchal," he added.
PM Modi said there is also clear from the mandate of Delhi that there is no place for shortcuts, lies in politics.
"Dilli ke logo ne shortcut wali rajneeti ka short-circuit kar diya'. Today the people of Delhi have made it clear. The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth. This is also clear from the mandate of Delhi that there is no place for shortcuts, lies in politics. 'Dilli ke logo ne shortcut vali rajneeti ka short-circuit kar diya'," he said.
PM Modi said the youth born in the 21st century will now see BJP's good governance in Delhi for the first time.
"I was seeing that BJP workers across the country also had a pain in their hearts. It was about not being able to serve Delhi fully. But today Delhi has accepted our request too. Today's results show how much trust the country has in BJP's double-engine government. After that victory in the Lok Sabha elections, we first made an unprecedented record in Haryana, then made a new record in Maharashtra. Now a new history has been created in Delhi," he said.
"The people of Delhi have never disappointed me in the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019 and 2024, the people of Delhi have made BJP victorious in all 7 seats...I thank the people of Delhi. Delhi has given us love wholeheartedly and I once again assure the people that we will return you double the love in the form of development," he added.
