New Delhi [India], November 7 : As Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Republican Donald Trump for his victory in the US Presidential elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Thursday said that Trump believes PM Modi to be one of the most popular leaders in the world.
Trump wants to work with PM Modi for global peace, Bhandari said, adding that India has emerged as a strong country under the leadership of PM Modi as Trump mentioned his name during the election campaign.
"The main point of the conversation between PM Narendra Modi and US President-elect Donald Trump yesterday, which was reported by the media, is that he believes that PM Modi is one of the most popular leaders in the world. He wants to work with him for global peace. Even during the campaign, the leader he (US President-elect Donald Trump) mentioned was PM Modi which establishes that India's global image as a strong country has emerged under the leadership of PM Modi," the BJP spokesperson said.
Bhandari said that the relationship between India and the US will grow. He lashed out at Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for not standing with Indians.
"On one hand, the whole world loves PM Modi and respects his strength and India's strength. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are leaders who never stand with Indians. Today is a very good day for India as it establishes that the Indo-US relationship is going to grow further and faster between the two strong leaders," Bhandari said.
Meanwhile, Indian Economist Suriya Narayanan on Thursday morning said that Trump's win would be beneficial for India when it comes to exports (trade). Trump's overtaking in the US elections provides India with a huge potential for export since the President-elect has claimed to charge 60 per cent duty on Chinese goods, he added.
"Today is a good day for India. Trump's election as the US President will have a multifaceted effect on the Indian economy, international economy, world trade and peace. This election we will have different aspects. Trump's overtaking (in elections) gives India a lot of potential for export because Trump has informed multiple times in his election speeches that more than 60 per cent duty will be charged on Chinese goods. This means that it is an opportunity for India for the export of goods, especially export of Agro and other products related to pharma," Narayanan said.
