Mar 24, 2025
New Delhi [India] March 24 : Former Indian cricketer and assistant and batting coach for Gujarat Titans (GT) in Indian Premier (IPL) League 2025 Parthiv Patel, spoke about the absence of David Miller in the lower-middle order for his team in this IPL season and said it is very difficult to fill his shoes but the team has players who can do the job.
"I don't see there is a problem, letting go a player who has done well, but the auction is dynamic where we have to let someone go. But we have bought Sherfane Rutherford, who is a very good hitter and we have Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan who has done well for Gujarat Titans. So obviously when someone like David Miller is not there you don't look at that, it is very difficult to fill those shoes but we have players who can do the job for our team. " Parthiv Patel said in a pre-match press conference.
Miller was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 7.5 crore in the auction ahead of IPL 2025. He is regarded as one of the contemporary white-ball legends for South Africa. Across 128 games for the Proteas, he has accumulated 2,473 runs at an average of 32. 54, with a strike rate of nearly 140, including two centuries and seven fifties.
In the IPL, Miller is recognized for his time with the Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans. His tenure with Punjab from 2012-19 established him as a significant IPL asset, as he thrived during his peak years from 2013-15, reaching the finals with his team in 2014.
After a few years of disappointing performances, Gujarat Titans showed faith in his finishing skills and he justified their trust with a season total of 481 runs in 16 matches, including two fifties, playing an essential role in the team's championship victory in their debut season. Miller is also celebrated for his excellent performances in high-stakes matches.
Gujarat Titans (GT) will compete against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the fifth game of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the legendary Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
