Dumka incident: Conversations needed to change mindset of people, says NCW Chief

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): National Commission for Women Chief Rekha Sharma underlined the need of changing the mentality of people where forcing women to marry and abusing them if they deny are acceptable. “Since arrest already made we asked Jharkhand DGP for action taken report. There's a mindset that you forcefully ask a woman to marry you and if she refuses, set her ablaze-it's pathetic. There should be conversation on this,” she said while commenting on the Dumka incident. A girl was allegedly set on fire by a person after she did not reciprocate his proposal in Jharkhand's Dumka district. She succumbed to her burn injuries on August 28. The accused has been arrested. People protested in Dumka right after the incident came to light.
