Gujarat: University Professor claims discovery of new species of spider in Junagarh

Junagadh (Gujarat), Feb 12 (ANI): Assistant Professor of Zoology at Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, Dr Jatinkumar Raval on February 11 claimed that he along with his student Namrata discovered a new species of spider 'Narsinh Mehta' in Junagadh, which is named after poet-saint Narsinh Mehta. “We have discovered a new species of spider 'Narsinh Mehta', named after poet-saint Narsinh Mehta. This is another addition to the world spider catalogue which at present has about 49,000 registered species,” he said. “My Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student Namrata and I have been working on it for the past 2.5 years, studied different spider species at 5-6 sites of the forest department which permitted us to carry on with our research. Thankful to forest department as well,” he added.
