Indra Jatra Festival begins in Nepal

Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 07, 2022, (ANI): Indra Jatra Festival, dedicated to lord Indra, god of rain has kicked off in the Himalayan Nation with the erection of Ya: Shi, a sacred pole regarded and worshipped as Lord Indraat Basantapur Durbar Sqaure. The 8 days long Indra Jatra formally starts in the Himalayan Nation with the erection of the sacred pole by dozens of devotees, especially the Nepal Army personnel using the rope. Hundreds of devotees stood above the structures to witness the formal beginning of IndraJatra. Ya: Shi is regarded as the incarnation of Lord Indra, who is symbolically tied onto it. This also symbolizes that Lord Indra has been captured on earth from the heaven and formal beginning of Jatra. On the main day of Jatra, the Living Goddess Kumari along with Ganesh and Bhairab are taken round the lower tole (locality). Indra Jatra is dedicated to the god of rain and king of heaven Lord Indra. It begins on the Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi as per Nepali calendar and lasts for a week.
