Dec 21, 2024
Kathmandu (Nepal), Dec 21 (ANI): Hundreds of people, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, gathered at the Army Pavilion in Kathmandu on Saturday to meditate together in observance of World Meditation Day. The event, part of a global 32-hour marathon meditation, attracted a diverse group of participants, ranging from government officials to members of the public, all joining in this worldwide initiative. On December 6, the UN General Assembly declared December 21 as World Meditation Day, emphasizing the right of all individuals to achieve the highest possible standards of physical and mental health. The Assembly also recognized the interconnectedness of yoga and meditation as complementary practices that support overall well-being. India played a key role in securing the unanimous adoption of the resolution, which underscores the importance of promoting peace, calm, and overall human well-being, especially at a time when the world is grappling with conflict and suffering. The adoption of this resolution marks a significant step in the global recognition of meditation's transformative power. December 21, which coincides with the Winter Solstice, is considered an auspicious time in Indian tradition, marking the start of Uttarayana. This period is seen as ideal for meditation and self-reflection.
