Nepal’s Premier Embarks on Strategic China Visit Amid BRI Silence

Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday embarked on a five-day official visit to China, with Beijing remaining silent on the revised proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) pact floated by the Himalayan nation. Leading a delegation of over 87 members, Prime Minister Oli left for Beijing, with attention focused on the potential agreements to be signed during the visit. Oli, who is also the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML), held discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior party officials before his departure. These talks centered around the new text of the "BRI Framework for Cooperation." Prime Minister Oli’s visit, scheduled from December 2 to 5, is at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. During his visit, he is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and hold bilateral talks with Premier Li Keqiang. He will also engage with senior leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and deliver a keynote address at Peking University.
