Non-Alcoholic perfumes in demand during Ramadan in Srinagar

Srinagar (J&K), May 20 (ANI): Amid the holy month of Ramadan, the demand for perfumes, particularly attar (non-alcoholic) has gone up. Shops selling attar are expecting to generate good profits given the fact most of the devotees avoid using perfumes with alcoholic content.In Kashmir valley, during Ramadan, most of the devotees prefer traditional attar over modern perfumes, as consumption of alcohol is prohibited in Islam. Many shopkeepers and attar vendors in Srinagar have set up their stalls outside mosques and shrines. The popular fragrances in demand are ‘gulab’, ‘chameli’, ‘nargis’, musk, chocolate, banana, Kashmiri apple, and ‘kesar’.Muslims cannot use any other perfumes except ‘attar’ because of the alcoholic content in most of them, which is a religious prohibition, as per the holy Quran said a customer.
