Chhota Udepur (Gujarat), May 26 (ANI): There are villages in Gujarat where the grooms don’t participate in their own weddings, and instead, one of their unmarried sisters represents them at the marriage ceremony. Three tribal villages in Chhota Udepur – Surkheda, Sanada and Ambala – have this unique wedding ritual in which the groom’s sister goes to bride’s place and brings her home after exchanging vows. The reason behind the quaint tradition is the reverence for the unmarried villages’ deities, and the locals want to preserve this age-old practice.
